Ashfall Wardens
Ashfall Wardens is the kind of RPG you can lose an evening to without noticing. It downloads the whole story upfront, so once installed you never see a loading spinner waiting on servers. You lead a small party through turn-based battles while slowly restoring a ruined settlement, and the two halves feed each other nicely.
Combat is deliberate rather than flashy. Positioning matters, elemental reactions matter, and most fights have a puzzle-like solution if you read the field carefully. The writing is warmer than we expected, with side characters who actually remember things you did earlier. We finished the main arc in around fifteen hours and still had optional regions left.
Our only gripe is that the map can feel dense on a small screen, and menu text is a touch small. But the save system is generous and everything is local, so you can put it down mid-battle and come back a week later without losing anything.
