How we actually test offline mode
People often ask how we decide a game counts as offline. The honest answer is that we go through a short, boring checklist, because store descriptions cannot be trusted on this.
First, we install with a connection and play the opening. Then we switch to airplane mode and close the app completely. If it reopens and lets us keep playing, that is a good sign. If it hangs on a logo or a login screen, it fails right there.
Next we look for silent syncing. Some games technically run offline but lose your progress the moment they reconnect, or they need a periodic check-in to unlock content. We play offline for a couple of days to catch this.
Finally we note anything that does need a connection, like leaderboards or optional extras, and we mention it in the review. A game can still be a great offline pick even if a few side features want internet. We just want you to know before you download.
