Calm strategy games for winding down
Not every strategy game has to stress you out. Some of the best offline ones are slow, forgiving, and almost meditative, the sort of thing you play with a cup of tea before bed.
Tide and Timber is a lovely example. You build a coastal town and plan around the seasons, and there is no clock forcing you to open the app every few hours. Progress waits patiently for you, which is exactly what you want from a wind-down game.
The reason these work so well offline is that they are turn-paced by nature. Nothing happens while you are away, so a lost connection changes nothing. You can play on a flight and pick up exactly where you left off.
If you have only ever tried fast, timer-driven builders, give a calmer one a chance. The satisfaction of slowly getting a settlement running hits differently when the game is not nagging you the whole time.
